NAIDOC Ball 2024

2024 NAIDOC Perth Ball

Chevron Australia is proud to continue supporting community engagement and celebrating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in Western Australia, announcing a renewed partnership with NAIDOC Perth at the NAIDOC Ball held earlier this month.

The announcement by Chevron Australia Director of Operations, Danny Woodall and NAIDOC Perth Chair, Glenda Kickett set the stage for a continued journey of respect, recognition, and understanding.

The partnership, which began in 2015, is underscored by our shared values and highlights the importance of recognising and empowering the traditional custodians of the land.

The renewed partnership will support key events, including the NAIDOC Perth Ball, the Miss and Mr NAIDOC Leadership and Empowerment Program and the NAIODC Perth Awards as well as a Project Manager to ensure that these events, aimed at cultural exchange, education, and the empowerment of Indigenous communities, continue to thrive.

Chevron Australia is committed to providing platforms for Indigenous voices and stories to resonate throughout its operations and beyond.

This includes launching initiatives to nurture and develop Indigenous talent, creating pathways for leadership and success in various industries.

In his address at the NAIDOC Ball, Danny Woodall emphasised the importance of the long-standing partnership and Chevron’s continued commitment to supporting NAIDOC Perth.

NAIDOC Perth Chair Glenda Kickett expressed her enthusiasm for the extended partnership, highlighting the opportunity it presents to amplify Indigenous voices and stories.

Chevron Australia Communities and Partnership Manager Ciara Griffiths also shared her excitement about the journey ahead.

“We are continuing on this path with NAIDOC Perth, and we eagerly anticipate the opportunities and experiences that will unfold,” she remarked.

Honouring this year’s NAIDOC week theme of Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud and Proud, Chevron held a variety of activities throughout the week, including an opening celebration at One The Esplanade in Perth as well as offering a self-guided cultural tour of the building, flag raising ceremonies at the Gorgon and Wheatstone natural gas facilities and serving a special Indigenous menu at both Pilbara based sites.

The Chevron Indigenous Employee Network also sold 2024 NAIDOC shirts, supplied by a local Western Australian Aboriginal business Jatu Clothing that feature Chevron’s community canvas designed by Aboriginal artist Jade Dolman, and donated over $5,000 to the Stars Foundation to support young Aboriginal girls through their mentoring programs at Perth and Pilbara schools.

The week-long festivities in recognition of NAIDOC week were a testament to the enduring spirit and rich heritage of Indigenous Australians.

Chevron looks forward to continuing its long-standing partnership with NAIDOC Perth and the opportunities to celebrate the history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
