An LNG tanker leaves port

Chevron is the largest holder of natural gas resources in Australia and natural gas is a large segment of Chevron's global energy portfolio.

A significant portion of natural gas produced by Chevron from Gorgon, Wheatstone and the North West Shelf is exported as liquefied natural gas (LNG) to premier LNG buyers in Asia. Natural gas is also supplied via Western Australia’s pipeline network and sold into the Western Australian domestic gas market.

Chevron has contracted to supply LNG under long term agreements to buyers in Asia, to be delivered on either a free on board (FOB) or delivered ex-ship (DES) basis. LNG volumes not assigned to term sales and purchase agreements are sold on the LNG spot market.

Chevron Gas Supply and Trading team provides marketing, customer support and operations management services to ensure contractual commitments are met.

domestic gas – securing western australia’s energy future

Chevron markets and delivers natural gas into the Western Australian domestic gas market for industrial, commercial and household use.

With equity in the Gorgon, Wheatstone and North West Shelf assets, Chevron is one of the major suppliers of domestic gas in the State.

Domestic gas supply from Gorgon commenced in 2016. The gas is transported to the mainland via a pipeline that is more than 90 kilometres long, connecting into the existing Dampier to Bunbury Natural Gas Pipeline. At full capacity, Gorgon will be able to supply up to 300 terajoules per day of gas to the Western Australian market, equivalent to generating enough electricity for 2.5 million households.

Domestic gas production from the Wheatstone asset commenced in March 2019. Wheatstone includes a 200 terajoules per day domestic gas plant.

Chevron Natural Gas Australia (CNGA), Chevron's marketing entity for equity domestic gas, is marketing Chevron's share of domestic gas from each of Chevron’s assets through direct engagement with a broad group of prospective customers.
