partnering to ensure jamba nyinayi festival continues to thrive

Chevron Australia is thrilled to announce a three-year partnership with the Baiyungu Aboriginal Corporation to support the annual Jamba Nyinayi Festival in Coral Bay.

The festival has grown steadily since its inception in 2023. Communities and Partnerships Manager Ciara Griffiths said Chevron Australia was proud to join as a partner to support its continued growth and success.

Held at Cardabia Station, is a vibrant celebration of local culture, featuring a diverse array of activities, including original music, dance, storytelling, food, and cultural workshops. This year, for the first time, there will also be a film viewing from the Cardabia Station Shearing Shed.

The Baiyungu Aboriginal Corporation (BAC) owns and manages the festival, collaborating closely with Baiyungu woman and Cultural Director Hazel Walgar. Each year, the festival develops a Baiyungu Cultural theme and features local and nationally recognised Indigenous artists. These artists showcase their talents through various performances and cultural sharing activities, including music, dance, film, workshops, food, and campfire storytelling.

"our partnership with BAC will ensure the festival continues to thrive, offering enriching experiences for attendees and promoting the unique traditions of the region"

The theme for 2025 is “Connection” and how it shapes the resilience of culture in these changing times. The theme honours the deep, timeless interconnectedness of the Baiyungu people, reflected in their relationship to Country, the Ningaloo reef area and their ongoing ancestral stories.

To expand opportunities for young people to be involved in the festival, a Youth Camp Program was held at Cardabia Station in March. Chevron Australia participated in the camp which offered youth from Carnarvon the chance to engage in a variety of activities to prepare for the upcoming festival. These activities included painting sessions, campfires, and cultural experiences, all designed to help them learn about local cultures and traditions.

The 2025 Jamba Nyinayi Festival will be held from 18 – 20 April 2025 over the Easter long weekend.
