environmental approvals
The Gorgon Project was awarded approval for a three train, 15.6 million tonne per annum LNG facility in 2009, following an initial approval for a two train facility in 2007.
In July of 2014, Chevron Australia on behalf of the Gorgon Project Joint Venturers, moved to expand the Gorgon Gas Project to include a fourth LNG train, as well as additional fields and a third trunkline, and was granted all required Federal and State environmental approvals.
To meet the State and Commonwealth environmental conditions of approval, environment management plans have been developed by Chevron Australia and approved by the State and Commonwealth Governments. These environmental management plans are provided below.

expert panels
As part of its commitment to protect the biodiversity of Barrow Island, a Class A Nature Reserve, Chevron Australia has established ongoing independent Expert Panels to advise the Minister of Environment and Chevron Australia on quarantine and marine turtle matters.
Each Expert Panel is led by an independent chairperson and comprises of State and Commonwealth government department representatives, independent subject matter experts and Chevron representatives.
The recommendations of the Panels assist in the safe and successful execution of the Gorgon Project, and the ongoing conservation of Barrow Island. More information about the Expert Panels can be obtained by members of the public by contacting Chevron Australia.
